What's the rumor about .tv? .tv is domain extension for the country Tuvalu and there are rumors spreading.
Tuvalu is sinking caused by Global Warming and it's very sad story, however, this isn't about Global Warming or even about Tuvalu. It's about Tuvalu's domain extension, .tv. Some say .tv will cease to exist when Tuvalu sink. Some say .tv will continue to live on. So, which is correct and which is bull-shit rumor? What do you do when there are conflicting news for anything? Usually, you can find correct news by checking which one has more credibility and which one is quoting credible source. Perhaps rumors were caused by GoDaddy. You will see following note when you try to register .tv at GoDaddy.com "Why choose .tv? 1. Note:The island of Tuvalu is sinking. 2. Recommended alternates are .COM, .NET & .INFO" Humm... Why would GoDaddy show this if it's just rumor? Who knows. Maybe it's just publicity stunt by Bob Parson. Maybe GoDaddy is using "scare tactic" trying to make you register alternate domains such as .com, .net or .info along with .tv? Notice that this note do NOT say .tv will be gone. It's merely mentioning Tuvalu is sinking and recommending alternate domains. You should know Bob Parson is NOT typical stereo-type CEO. Seems he loves publicity. This is why I said this may just be a publicity stunt and it's working. I am writing about it :D Don't get me wrong, though. I like Bob Parson. I even bought his accounting program from his previous company, Parsons Technology, which he sold to Intuit for about $64 million in 1994. I have nothing against him although I hate GoDaddy's control panel and you have to go thru hoops just to register one domain. It just take too long to register domain name. Some blogs and sites already started talking about .tv's future and some say .tv will disappear when Tuvalu sink under water. However, USA Today said exact opposite quoting Tom Galvin (VeriSign spokesman). He said .tv will live on whether Tuvalu exist or not by giving example of still existing .su which is domain extension of "Soviet Union" and we all know Soviet Union exist only in history book. Perhaps Bob Parson knows something? Based on credibility of source and past similar case (.su), I think .tv will live on even if Tuvalu is no more.
